
In a significant development, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has clinched a major contract worth approximately INR 132 crore from Central Railway. This project entails OHE modification work in the Wardha-Ballarshah section of Nagpur division, the project will enhance loading capabilities in the region.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has secured a significant contract worth approximately INR 132 crore from Central Railway. The project involves OHE modification work to upgrade the existing electric traction system to a feeding system in the Wardha-Ballarshah section, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of rail operations in this area.
Brief about the Tender/Order:
- Name of Work: OHE modification work for Up-gradation of existing 1 x 25 kV electric traction system to 2 x 25 kV at feeding system in Wardha-Ballarshah section in Nagpur division of Central Railway to meet 3000 MT loading target.
- Time period by which the order(s)/contract(s) to be executed is: 24 Months
- Broad consideration or size of the order(s)/contract(s) is: Rs. 132,59,20,130.37/-
Scope of Work under the Contract:
- 5 mm copper dropper wire as per RDSO/CORE specifications.
- Contact & Catenary dropper clips including fasteners, split pins etc.
- One number ‘C’ jumper of 1.60 metre length (cross-section area of 50 sq mm copper as per RDSO/CORE specifications) per span including two numbers PG clamps per ‘C’ jumper and Anti-theft jumper with required Bolt, Nut, Washer and Fasteners etc.
- Supply of required contact and catenary splices.
The scope/price shall also cover following activities:
- Fabrication of droppers as per dropper employment schedule issued by RDSO for 160 Kmph (Dropper employment schedule will be provided by Railways).The fabrication of droppers to be done as a non-power block activity in advance.
- Dismantling of existing droppers, contact & catenary dropper clips.
- Erection of new fabricated droppers with contact & catenary dropper clips.
- Erection of one number ‘C’ jumper with PG clamps per span and required Anti-theft jumper with Bolt, Nuts, Washer, Fasteners etc.
- Dismantling of existing ‘C’ jumpers with PG clamps.
- Any other Jumper dismantling with fittings and its re-erection at another required location.
- Shifting of Anti Creep wire with termination complete, wherever involved including dismantling of existing.
- Creation of new overlap including termination/Shifting of overlap including termination, transfer of OHE etc.
- Converting overlap OHE into normal OHE including transfer of OHE/termination etc also wherever involved
- Splicing, Extension and termination of OHE wherever required. (Main line as well as connected crossover and turnouts).
- Material required which is not covered in the supply part of this tender will be supplied by railway.
- Apart from above any other erection/modification required for making the OHE fit for 2x25kv OHE system as per layout prepared need to be carried out.
- All released materials such as existing droppers, contact & catenary dropper clips, ‘C’ jumpers, PG clamps etc are to be deposited by contractor in stores of Concerned SSE/OHE.
- The dismantled material is to be transported at required location for DS8 purpose at a suitable place as directed by the Railway representative.
- The cost of transportation of released material shall be covered under Item No – 23 of Schedule A2 (Transportation of released material).
Conclusion:
The significant stride by RVNL will bring the operational efficiency through OHE system in Wardha-Ballarshah section of Central Railways. The contract will further provide an opportunity to RVNL to showcase its capabilities and expertise in supplying the quality overhead connectors to Indian Railways.
