Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, SWR inspects Central Workshop

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, South Western Railway, Hubballi, did Annual Inspection of the Central Workshop, Ashokapuram, on 23.10.2020. Central Workshop, Ashokapuram of South Western Railway was established in 1924 as a base workshop of the erstwhile Mysore State Railway. The workshop has started POH of BG coaches from 1994. With the introduction of LHB coaches on Indian Railways, workshop has been nominated to carry out Shop Schedule-1, Shop Schedule-2 and Shop Schedule-3 Schedules for the LHB coaches from 2012 onwards.

  • Recently, the Workshop has successfully manufactured a High speed MEMU motor coach wheel that is fit to run at a speed of 160 kmph.
  • This wheel manufacturing is undertaken for the first time in Indian Railway workshop against M/s Bombardier quality plan.
  • Principal Heads of various Departments Shri P. Ravi Kumar, PCME, Shri Vipul Kumar, PCE, Kum. Roopa Srinivasan, PFA, Shri Ajay Kumar, PCSTE, Shri G. V. Narayana Murthy, PCMM, Shri Anil Pavithran, PCCM, Shri M. A. V. Ramanujan, PCSO, Dr. Vilas Gunda, PCMD & Shri R S Chouhan, PCSC accompanied GM/SWR for the inspection.
  • Smt Aparna Garg, Divisional Railway Manger, Mysuru and Shri P Srinivasu, Chief Workshop Manager, Mysuru were present during the inspection.
  • Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR inaugurated the Railway Institute (relocated) at the Workshop.
  • Smt. Sujata Singh, President, SWR Women’s Organisation inaugurated Heritage Pillars at the Workshop. 
  • These two Heritage Pillars were casted in Mysuru Workshop in the year 1939 for Mysuru State Railway was found recently. 
  • To give them a place of pride right at the entrance of the Workshop these two pillars have been aesthetically erected with 2 metal insignias emblems of Southern Mahratta Railway (SMR) and of Mysore State Railway (MSR). 
  • Mysuru Workshop was established during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.
  • The Refusal Yard, Bio Tank Cleaning area, Carriage Body Repair Shop & Paint Shop, LHB Spring Shop and Carriage lift shop were also inspected by the team of officers from SWR/HQ.

Inauguration of Welding Simulator at BTC:

  • Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR inaugurated the Welding Simulator at BTC. Welding simulator gives virtual training to operate welding tools, which is very essential to activities in Workshop. 
  • 5 T Electric Overhead Travelling (EOT) crane was commissioned. 
  • The 25th High Speed MEMU Motor Coach wheel was rolled out for Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) on 23.10.2020. 
  • Shot Blasting Machine was also inaugurated during this occasion.
  • Hydraulic Press (8 T capacity) for pressing in/out the primary suspension unit used in LHB bogies manufactured by Mysuru Workshop was inaugurated.

  • Bogie Repair Shop
  • Air Brake Shop
  • Stores Depot
  • Wheel Shop
  • Machine Shop
  • POH of coaches at AC shop

Shri P Srinivasu, Chief Workshop Manager, Mysuru gave a presentation on the performance and achievement of the Workshop. Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR distributed awards to the officers and staff of the Workshop for their performance during the previous year and up to September this year. GM/SWR later interacted with members of Recognized Trade unions and staff of Workshop.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh commended the efforts taken by Mysuru Workshop in housekeeping and well documented files and records. He also appreciated the performance of Mysuru Workshop in producing Zero en-route coach failures and failure of components within 100 days.
