Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM, SWR inspects progress of works at Belagavi station building and yard development

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR along with railway officials on Thursday inspected the progress of work at Belagavi station building and coaching terminal facilities. Shri Singh was accompanied by Shri Arvind Malkhede, DRM/UBL, Shri T V Bhushan, CE/CN/UBL and Assistant General Manager, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. and other branch officers.

  • Work of station building and Coaching terminal was progressing well and due to the recent pandemic target for completion of works at Belagavi was being targeted to be completed by March 2022. 
  • The work is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited
  • Along with the new station building at the main entrance, a second entry is also coming up.
  • Coaching depot is also being provided at Belagavi that will enable starting of trains from Belagavi. 
  • This will help in increasing more number of trains from Belagavi as maintenance at Belagavi will reduce dependency o­n other cities for train maintenance. 
  • In addition to establish setup for coach maintenance, sick line and pit line are also coming up. 
  • These works are being taken up under doubling of the Londa – Miraj section. 
  • Total cost of works are approximately Rs. 175 Cr.

Recent achievement:

As part of Hosapete-Tinaighat – Vasco-da-gama doubling, the section between Hubballi and Dharwad twin cities is being doubled. In this work, the stretch of Dharwad -Navalur-Unkal is now completed.

  • Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) conducted statutory inspection of newly laid double line Section between Dharwad to Unkal (17 Km) o­n 14.10.2020. 
  • After compliance of observations in the inspection, CRS o­n 16.10.2020 has given authorization for running of passenger and goods trains between Dharwad and Unkal o­n Newly laid double line.
  • The work of Non- interlocking was taken up immediately by availing line blocks. Latest signaling system with Electronic Interlocking was commissioned in Dharwad o­n 16.10.2020. 
  • This electronic system of operation of points and signals along with interlocking various gears for safe operations was of Centralized Architecture with 55 routes.
  • Train No. 02630 Hazrat Nizamuddin – Yesvantpur Special Express o­n 16th Oct 2020 was the first train dealt o­n signals that passed through the newly laid double line between Dharwad and Navalur at 21:15 hrs.Work of Non Interlocking at Navalur station and track between Navalur and Hubbali Bye-pass west started in 16th Oct. 
  • As part of this Navalur Station will be commissioned for 148 route distributed Electronic Interlocking.
  • Authorization from CRS was received o­n 16.10.2020 and within a short time the double line block section was commissioned for traffic between Dharwad and Navalur o­n 17.10.2020.  
  • At Unkal station, a new station building with island platform and new Foot over bridge has been constructed under this work.
  • This doubling work was accomplished with two cut and connections; o­ne between Dharwad and Unkal and other between Unkal and Hubballi. 
  • Cut and connection involved making a new track first for certain stretch, then cutting off connection to the old track and connect New track.
  • The work of doubling Hubballi West to Hubbali involves Hubballi yard remodeling in which the world’s longest platform is coming up and the same is expected to commission early next year.
