Shri Manoj Joshi, GM, Kolkata Metro inspects underground Sealdah Station of East-West Metro project

Commissioning of Sealdah Metro station to extend services upto Sealdah is being planned and phased works are accordingly in progress. To review the o­n-going works, General Manager/Metro Railway Shri Manoj Joshi along with MD/ KMRCL Sri Manas Sarkar, Director/ Project/ KMRCL, Principal Head of Departments of Metro Railway and DRM, Sealdah, E. Rly., inspected the station o­n 01.07.2021. 

  • Station commissioning work and installation of various equipment related to Signalling, Air-Conditioning, Power Supply, Platform Screen Door and track etc were inspected by the General Manager and his team. 
  • He held detailed discussions with the MD/ KMRCL & Director/ Project of KMRCL at the site.  
  • Head of the Departments of KMRCL and other experts were also present during the discussions.  
  • General Manager was satisfied with the progress of the o­ngoing works by KMRCL. 
  • The completion of station work is likely to take about 06 months. 
  • In the meantime, train testing up to Sealdah is planned to start by the end of July’21 which is an important activity for getting the signalling system certified by the Independent Safety Auditor. 
  • The completion of the work at Sealdah is a challenging work since the winding up of TBM activities is also being done at west-end which has bearing o­n the completion of the station work and commissioning.
  • This extension of East-West Corridor upto Sealdah is going to benefit suburban passengers coming to Sealdah and going towards New Town.

Concreting Work Completed at Biman Bandar Metro Station:

Construction works of different Metro Projects in the city have been going o­n in the lockdown. A great milestone has been achieved by executing uninterrupted concreting works of a top slab and a concourse slab of Biman Bandar Metro Station of Noapara-Barasat via Biman Bandar Metro project maintaining all Covid Protocols recently.

  • Casting work of a top slab of Biman Bandar Station started o­n 23.06.2021 and 1150 cubic metre concrete were consumed in this job.
  • The casting work of this 47.5 m X 30 m X 1300 mm top slab was completed amidst heavy downpour.
  • A cover was put in place to protect manpower, machinery and newly cast concrete as well as to execute the job without any interruption during the heavy downpour.
  • Casting work of a concourse slab of Biman Bandar Metro station has also been completed immediately after the top slab casting work.
  • This work started o­n 25.06.2021 and 1273 cubic metre concrete were consumed in this casting work in which 20 transit mixers were used to finish the job.
