South Western Railway augments 229 coaches on permanent basis till February in the Financial Year 2022-23

South Western Railway has augmented 229 coaches o­n a permanent basis from April 2022 to February 2023, which is the highest augmentation during the last three years, o­n 104 pairs of trains these coaches have been augmented o­n a permanent basis.

More Details:

  • 210 coaches were temporarily augmented from April 2022 to January 2023 to cater to an extra rush of passengers. This is 21.38 % higher as compared to the previous year.
  • Augmentation of coaches increases the passenger accommodation considerably during festivals and holidays seasons. Permanent augmentation of existing trains with additional coaches will facilitate the clear waitlisted passengers and running of special trains o­n popular routes.
  • This caters to the needs of the passengers to reach their destinations comfortably and ease overcrowding during peak hours in the trains.

General Manager of South Western Railway, Shri Sanjeev Kishore, said that permanent and temporarily augmented coaches were to the passengers’ benefit. He also added that the additional coaches would help ease the rush during peak hours and provide a comfortable journey experience to the passengers.

Principal Chief Operations Manager, Shri Hari Shankar Verma said that SWR has responded pro-actively to the passenger demand by augmenting coaches o­n various trains. The demand in various trains and routes is being monitored regularly to serve our esteemed passengers.
