South Western Railway registers earnings of Rs. 4,610 Crore from freight loading in the Financial Year 2022-23

South Western Railway has registered earnings from the transportation of freight of Rs. 4,600 crores. For the first time in the last 15 years, SWR has surpassed originating freight loading of 46 million tonnes.

More Details:

  • In 2007-08 SWR had transported cargo of 46.24 million tonnes. In Financial Year 2022-23, we have surpassed this record and transported 46.7 million tonne originating cargo.
  • Railways play a major role in maintaining the supply chain of essential commodities. Railways enables quick, safe, economic transportation of bulk cargo, raw materials to industries as well as finished goods from industry to points of export/consumption.
  • In FY 2022-23, SWR has also set a record by transporting 2.05 million tonne mineral oil, 1.07 million tonne cement, 1.45 million tonne Sugar and 509 rakes of automobiles.
  • Railways has emerged as a transporter of choice for automobile manufacturers as we have enabled environment friendly, accident-free, damage – free, timely transit for newly manufactured vehicles. Toyota, Kia, Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, TVS are some of the major customers of SWR.
  • General Manager Shri Sanjeev Kishore has congratulated Team SWR in achieving this feat, and has extended his gratitude to the customers for their support in realising the high freight revenue.

Shri Hari Shankar Verma, Principal Chief Operations Manager, SWR stated that despite many challenges such as o­ngoing doubling, electrification etc which demanded numerous traffic – blocks, freight transportation was planned meticulously in the interest of public, and railway customers. He mentioned that a growing economy needs a robust and reliable transportation network and railways are working 24×7 towards meeting the expectations.
