Southern Railway Update: Two new lifts commissioned for passengers at Basin Bridge Railway station

Continuing its efforts of providing better amenities and facilities to rail passengers, Chennai Division of Southern Railway has commissioned two new lifts with all safety features for the convenience of commuters at Basin Bridge Railway Station, on 01st July.2022.

More details:

  • These two lifts were procured and commissioned at a cost of Rs.80 lakhs with a carrying capacity of 13 persons. The newly commissioned lifts will bring much needed relief for the commuters, especially physically challenged, senior citizens and pregnant ladies to reach Platform/concourse/exit areas with ease.
  • These new lifts were installed o­n Platform Nos. 2 & 3 at Foot Over Bridge (FOB) which will connect passengers to the FOB leading to Platform Nos. 6 & 7.

  • At Present, 40 lifts at 21 stations and 55 escalators at 18 stations are functioning within the jurisdiction of Chennai Division. In addition, 2 more escalators have been planned for commissioning at Chengalpattu and Arakkonam in this Financial Year.
  • Moreover, the work of installing new lifts at Chennai Egmore, Villivakkam, Ambattur, Korattur, Tiruninravur, Chrompet, Ponneri, Washermanpet and Royapuram Railway stations, is also progressing quickly.
