Stakeholders’ Workshop on business prospects of Dedicated Freight Corridors organized

A Stakeholders’ Workshop on the business prospects of Dedicated Freight Corridors was organized on behalf of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) by M/s PwC Ltd. on October 22nd, 2018 in New Delhi. The workshop was organized in order to engage the attention of various stakeholders and to get their valuable inputs for consideration in the process of re-orienting the business policies of DFCCIL and to take other initiatives in the freight business.

The workshop was attended by Sh. Ashwani Lohani,Chairman Railway Board & Chairman DFCCIL, Sh. Girish Pillai,Member – Traffic, Railway Board, Sh. S.N Agarwal, Member Staff, Railway Board, Sh. Anurag Sachan, Managing Director DFCCIL, Directors of DFCCIL, officials from Railway Board, representatives of various logistics companies, investors, officials from World Bank, JICA, representatives from State Government, DMICDC etc.

Sh. Lohani, Chairman Railway Board emphasized that the scheduled commissioning of DFCCIL is March 2020 and the preparedness from DFCCIL and industry side should remain the prime focus for attracting maximum incremental traffic to the freight corridors. Sh. Sachan, MD, DFCCIL provided an overview of DFCCIL which included corridor design specifications, operational features of the corridors, project progress, completion targets and connectivity proposals to DFC. Sh. Pillai, Member – Traffic, Railway Board emphasized that the challenge is to attract maximum traffic through reliability of services, time-tabled trains and speedier connectivity to the freight terminals, private sidings and ports. Sh. Dieter Schneiderbauer, International Expert furnished examples of development of logistics terminals with case studies. M/s PwC presented the various projections of traffic related strategies and plans for attracting maximum traffic to DFCCIL.

An interactive Q&A session was also organised with the stakeholders and the panel consisting of Chairman, Railway Board, Member – Traffic, Railway Board, MD DFCCIL, Director OP & BD, DFCCIL & Partner, PwC.

More such stakeholders’ interactions are planned in the future.
