SWR completes newly laid double line between Gubbi & Nittur Stations

Newly laid double line between Gubbi and Nittur Stations (9 Kms) o­n South Western Railway (SWR), Bengaluru Division was completed on 1.2.2021. This double line between Gubbi and Nittur Stations is part of the 96 Km doubling between Arsikere and Tumakuru. 65 Km have so far been commissioned in this section which includes Arsikere – Kardi (36 Km) in Nov 18, Kardi – Banasandra (11 Km) in Mar.20, Tumakuru – Gubbi (18 Km) in May 19. 

  • Work is in progress in the section between Nittur – Banasandra and targeted to be completed by June 2021.
  • Arsikere – Tumakuru Doubling was sanctioned in 2015-16 at a cost of Rs.783 Crs. (Revised) Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS)/ Southern Circle, Bengaluru completed statutory inspection of newly laid double line between Gubbi and Nittur stations (9 Km) o­n 30.12.2020 and after completion of all remaining works double line between has been opened to traffic from 01.02.2021. 

  • Speed trial was conducted successfully at a Maximum speed of 126 kmph with NIL peaks. 
  • Glass water challenge was also met with success during the trial.
  • Bengaluru – Hubballi line spanning 478 Km of which 400 Km is in Mysuru Division and the rest is in Bengaluru Division constitutes the main trunk route of SWR for Karnataka. 
  • Doubling of Railway track in this section will increase line capacity of this important line connecting Bengaluru to Hubballi, Belagavi, Mumbai etc. 
  • This will give impetus to rail infrastructure in the region of Arsikere – Tumakuru. 
  • The doubling project, o­nce completed fully will result in much faster movement of trains and improve intercity connectivity.

  • Trolley/path 2 Nos (at both ends)

  • Area of newly provided Platform shelter 480 Sqm
  • Length of newly constructed Platform Platform No.2 – 480m HL
  • Foot Over Bridge 1 Nos (under construction)
  • Benches 25 Nos (under construction)
  • Water booths 5 Nos (under construction)
  • Trolley/path 2 Nos (at both ends)

The work of doubling of the section is monitored by Shri K C Swami, CAO/CN, and executed by Shri P R S Raman, CE/CN/East and Shri Shantiram, CSTE/CN and officers of Construction Organisation.

Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager of Bengaluru Division, with Branch officers of the division has ensured early commissioning of the section.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR said that infrastructure development was being given a thrust and doubling between Bengaluru and Hubballi was a priority for increasing line capacity and to enable SWR to run faster trains.
