WR procures highest Goods and Services worth Rs. 54.07 crore from GeM portal from September to November, 2020

Western Railway has taken a series of steps to strengthen the procurement of Goods and Services through Government e-Market place (GeM) which is an online platform for public procurement launched by the Ministry of Commerce. Accordingly, WR has been in the forefront amongst all Zonal Railways as well as Production Units of Indian Railways for consistently achieving highest Goods and Services procurement through GeM for the period from September to November, 2020.

  • This exceptional and outstanding achievement by W.Rly has been made possible under the aegis & able leadership of Shri Alok Kansal – General Manager and due to the sustained efforts of Principal Chief Materials Manager.
  • According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Government e-Market (GeM) Task Force has been constituted in Western Railway with an aim to maximize the procurement of services through GeM portal, as per the directives of Railways board. 
  • Accordingly, the GeM Task Force compiled the mammoth data of W. Rly’s existing services of Rs.950 Cr. and further identified the services among them which can be purchased through GeM straight away. 
  • As a result of these efforts, WR has been consistently achieving highest Goods and Services procurement through GeM amongst all Zonal Railways & PUs from Sept, 20 to Nov, 20, procuring Goods and services worth Rs.34.94 Crore till Sept, 20, Rs.43.52 Cr. till Oct, 20 and Rs. 54.07 Cr. till Nov, 20. 
  • Accordingly, In comparison to the corresponding period last year, there is an increase of 22.03% in the cumulative procurement of Goods and Services through GeM which was Rs. 44.31 Crore till Nov, 2019. 
  • Shri Thakur further informed that Railway Board has time and again reaffirmed the Zonal Railways to be implemented & to monitor the procurement through GeM.
  • Accordingly, W.Rly has identified and communicated to the Railway Board for on boarding of many services which were not available on GeM portal. 
  • The main objective of this GeM portal is creating an open and transparent procurement platform for Government organizations and to reach out to all levels of vendors & provide transparency and ease of buying Goods and Services in Government purchases. 
  • GeM is a dynamic, self-sustaining and user friendly portal for making procurement by Government Ministries and Departments, Public Sector Undertakings and other apex autonomous bodies of the Central Government. 
  • Presently, more than 7400 products in about 150 product categories and hiring of transport service are available on GeM portal. 
  • Transactions for more than Rs 140 Crore have already been processed through GeM. 
  • It is a completely paperless, cashless and system driven e-market place that enables procurement of common use goods and services with minimal human interface.
