Northeast Frontier Railway commissions double line section between Barpeta Road and Pathsala stations

In a significant step to improve connectivity, Northeast Frontier Railway has commissioned a double line section between Barpeta Road and Pathsala stations. This development is part of the broader New Bongaigaon–Agthori via Rangiya double line project, which continues to advance. The CCRS has successfully completed the statutory inspection of the newly laid double line section, marking a crucial milestone in the project.

More Details:

The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS), Shri Janak Kumar Garg has completed the statutory inspection of the newly laid double line section between Barpeta Road & Pathsala stations o­n 2nd & 3rd June, 2024. The primary objective of this inspection was to ensure safety, security and operational efficiency of newly created railway infrastructure in this section. This newly laid second line will be helpful for carrying more freight and passenger traffic through the New Bongaigaon – Agthori via Rangiya route and crossing time of trains will be reduced significantly.

Brief about the Project:

  • Work on the Barpeta Road & Pathsala section has been done as part of the New Bongaigaon – Agthori via Rangiya 142.97 km long doubling project.
  • The project includes 75 major bridges, 38 minor bridges and construction of 19 new station buildings.

  • The stretch between Barpeta Road to Pathsala is 21.40 km. The section includes construction of 01 minor and 16 major bridges.
  • There are 05 Level Crossings consisting 02 Special Class manned (Traffic), 01 Special Class & 02 “A” Class manned (Engg.) level crossings in the section.
  • The second line was commissioned along with electrification. The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) inspected the railway bridges, track fittings, P-way assets, electronic interlocking, relay rooms, cabin and level crossings in the section.

Progress of the Project till Date:

  • Out of the total 142.97 km of the New Bongaigaon – Agthori via Rangiya doubling project, 91.21 km has already been commissioned.
  • Earlier 17.53 km section between New Bongaigaon to Bijni, 26.91 km section between Pathsala to Nalbari, 18.99 km section between Bijni to Sorbhog, 7.48 km section between Changsari to Agthori and 10.15 km Baihata to Changsari was commissioned o­n 30th August, 2022, 24th May, 13th June, 26th December, 2023 and 20th March, 2024 respectively.
  • Also 21.40 km between Barpeta Road and Pathsala is commissioned o­n 3rd June, 2024. O­n completion of this entire section, the regional train connectivity will get a significant boost.

Additional Facilities:

  • Adding to existing passenger amenities, 3-metre-wide new Foot Over Bridges have been commissioned at Sarupeta, Guagacha and Barpeta Road stations with 2 Bays & 10 Bays New Passenger Platform Sheds at Sarupeta and Barpeta Road respectively.
  • O­ne Ladies/Gents toilet each at Guagacha and Barpeta Road stations & 03 ladies/04 gents’ toilets at Sarupeta railway station were also facilitated.
  • Additionally, 02 new station buildings were also constructed at Sarupeta & Barpeta Road stations along with proper water supply for passengers at both the stations.
  • Heights of the platforms were increased for ease of boarding and deboarding of passengers from trains.

The commissioning of the double line section between Barpeta Road and Pathshala Stations showcases the ongoing efforts being made by the Northeast Frontier Railway towards boosting connectivity of the region along with providing various facilities to the passengers to enhance their convenience and build further trust towards the railways.
