Bangalore Metro Update: Tunnel Boring Machine-TUNGA successfully achieves breakthrough at Kadugondanahalli Station

Bangalore Metro’s Phase-2 project is going on in full swing as recently the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)-  TUNGA has successfully achieved a breakthrough at the Kadugondanahalli Station.

More Details:

  • The Phase-2 of Bangalore Metro Rail Project consists of Four Extensions to the existing lines and Two New Lines with a total length of 72.095 km with 61 stations (49 Elevated and 12 Underground).
  • Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) TUNGA after tunnelling 1064 m between Venkateshpura Station to Shadhi Mahal Shaft, started tunnelling again on 31st October, 2022 from Venkateshpura Station and made a breakthrough on 06th December, 2023 at Kadugondanahalli (K.G. Halli) Station near Arabic College after completing 1184.4 m of tunnelling.
  • With this breakthrough, out of the total 20992 m of tunnelling 18832.30 m is completed i.e. 89.70%. Out of 9 TBM’s deployed for tunnelling, 7 TBM’s have completed the tunnelling works.

  • North-South corridor of 30.32 km commencing at Nagasandra in the North and terminating at Silk Institute in the South.
  • This is the First Metro rail project in India commissioned with 750V DC Third Rail Traction on Standard Gauge.
