Bullet Train Update: MD, Shri Vivek Kumar Gupta conducts inspection of construction sites in Gujarat

In a continuous effort to ensure the timely execution of the Bullet Train project in a quality manner, regular inspections are conducted and Shri Vivek Kumar Gupta, MD of NHSRCL, recently inspected the important construction sites in Ahmedabad and Sabarmati related to the highly anticipated Bullet Train Project, including the Sabarmati rolling stock depot.

More Details:

Shri Vivek Kumar Gupta, Managing Director of National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), inspected the Ahmedabad and Sabarmati construction sites including Sabarmati rolling stock depot, reviewing the progress of the Bullet Train project. He was accompanied by Director (Project) and Director (Rolling Stock) along with other senior officials from NHSRCL & contractor side.

The 508 km long alignment of India’s first Bullet Train Project for Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor (MAHSR) will transverse through 12 stations; 8 in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra. The high speed train running at a speed of 320 km/h will offer fast connectivity between the two financial hubs located in the state of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Starting from Mumbai, it will have stops at 10 cities in between viz. Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and will terminate at Sabarmati.

Brief about Ahmedabad Construction:

  • Ahmedabad HSR station is inspired by the rich cultural & historical ethos of the city. The roof depicts a canvas for hundreds of kites whereas the facade picks a pattern inspired by the intricate lattice work of Syed Siddique’s Jaali.
  • The station is being planned to be built in an area of approx. 38,000 sq. m over the existing western railway station above platform no. 10, 11 & 12.
  • Concourse level slab of 435 m long has been completed. Platform level slab work is in progress.

Brief about Sabarmati Construction:

  • Sabarmati HSR being the terminal station of the MAHSR Corridor, NHSRCL has planned to develop it as a Multimodal Transport Hub in the region which will connect the HSR line to Indian Railways, Metro station and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, all located within a short walk for easy transfers.
  • To provide seamless connectivity and integration between the various transport modes around the HSR station, a Multimodal Transport Hub building has been planned on the East side of Sabarmati HSR station along with three FOBs, fitted with travelators. These FOBs will connect Hub building with Sabarmati HSR station, both the Sabarmati Railway stations, Metro station and the BRTS stand.
  • A Multi modal Integration plan for Sabarmati HSR station was developed in consultation with all stakeholders and necessary interventions were proposed such as road widening, redesigning of road geometry and junctions, Tabletop pedestrian crossings etc.
  • Foundation work is completed. First floor slab casting work is in progress.

Sabarmati Rolling Stock Depot:

  • The Sabarmati Rolling Stock depot will be the largest depot with an area of about 83 hectares. It will have state-of-the-art equipment for both light and heavy maintenance of train sets with inspection bays, washing plant, workshop, sheds, stabling lines, etc.
  • This depot will have 10 stabling lines which will be further increased to 29 lines in future. The excavation work for the Administration Building, a large RCC building, has been completed.
  • The design approvals for the steel structures, where the inspection bays, pits, and depot machineries, for train set maintenance and overhaul shall be located, are under progress. The land preparation works for the depot have already been completed.

Conclusion:

The inspection is in line with NHSRCL’s efforts to execute the highly awaited Bullet Train Project in a timely and quality manner, as this being the first Bullet Train Project would act as a benchmark for other similar projects in the country.
