CCRS approves the EI-Based signalling system on two stretches of Kolkata Metro

The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) has approved the EI-Based signalling system on Kavi Subhash To Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch of Orange Line and Joka to Majerhat Stretch of Purple Line.

More Details:

  • Shri Janak Kumar Garg, Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS), NF Circle has approved two stretch of Kolkata Metro for commissioning of Electronic Interlocking (EI) based Signalling System as initial stage of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) based Signalling System o­n both UP and Down lines in between Kavi Subhash Station to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Station of Orange Line.
  • Metro services in between Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch of Orange Line will start very soon.
  • The second approval was for Joka Station to the upcoming Majerhat Station of Purple Line and Joka Depot of Joka-Esplanade Corridor. As a result of this approval, now Metro rakes o­n this stretch can be run with EI based Signalling System.

  • At present, services o­n this stretch in between Joka to Taratala are being run following ‘One Train Only System’. Metro services in Purple Line will be extended up to Majerhat station very soon.

This approval of CCRS will enhance flexibility in train operations and number of services can be increased if situation demands o­n this stretch. It is to be noted that at present, a total 24 services play o­n this stretch daily.
