In a significant move to enhance metro infrastructure development in the city, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited has awarded the contract of Phase-2 Lifts & Escalator Works of Corridor 3 & 5 to M/s Schindler India Private Limited.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded the Phase-2 Lifts & Escalator Works of Corridor 3 & 5 (From Sholinganallur Lake-I to Siruseri Sipcot-II and Koyambedu Market to Elcot Park Metro Stations) contract to M/s Schindler India Private Limited. Mr. Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems and Operations) CMRL, issued the Letter of Acceptance to the M/s Schindler India Private Limited. Senior officials of CMRL and Schindler India Pvt. Ltd. were present during the occasion.
What is Chennai Metro Phase-2 Project:
- Phase-2 expansion has been planned for a length of 118.9 Km network with 128 nos. of stations. It consists of three Corridors i.e. Corridor -3 – From Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km), Corridor -4 – From Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass (26.1 Km), Corridor-5- From Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 Km).
- The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 63246/- Crore (Rupees Sixty three thousand two hundred and forty six only) (including IDC). The project is proposed to be completed by the end of 2026.
Conclusion:
The bagged contract by M/s Schindler India Private Limited will encourage the Make in India campaign by the Indian Government. The company has proved its credibility and built trust in the Indian market by delivering its product for Nagpur Metro, Greater Noida Metro and many more. Now, Phase 2 project of Chennai Metro will provide the supplier another opportunity to contribute to the safety measures along with not compromising the modernization features of the project.
