Chennai Metro Corridor 1 and 2 of Phase-1 and extension bags Platinum Rating from IGBC for 40 metro stations

Chennai Metro’s Corridor 1 and 2 of Phase-1, along with their extensions bagged Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum Rating for 40 metro stations.

More Details:

  • Metro Railway (Kolkata) took various initiatives during implementation of its projects and as a result it received the highest certification level of Platinum rating from IGBC for 40 metro stations (21 elevated stations & 19 Underground Stations) of Phase 1 & Extension.
  • Mr. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), CMRL received the award on behalf of the organisation in front of an international and national audience at a ceremony held in Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai on 25th November, 2023.

What is Indian Green Building Council:

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year 2001, with the vision of enabling a sustainable built environment by 2025.

In light of the growth of the green building movement, IGBC Green Building Rating System launched categories for New and Existing Buildings, Interiors, Healthcare, Schools, Factory Buildings, Green Cities, SEZs, Landscapes and Mass Rapid Transit System

IGBC Green Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) rating was launched to encourage green concepts in the design, construction & operation of Rail based MRTS addressing green features of site selection and planning, water efficiency, energy efficiency, material conservation, indoor environment and comfort and innovation in design and construction.
