Chennai Metro Rail bags International Safety Award 2020 from The World Safety Organization (WSO), USA

Chennai Metro Rail Limited has bagged International Safety Award 2020 from  The World Safety Organization (WSO), USA

  1. The World Safety Organization (WSO), U.S.A is an international professional association in Safety. The Objectives of the WSO are as follows: 
    • To encourage the effective exchange of information and experiences between members of the WSO;
    • Collaborate with other international organizations in areas of mutual concern;
    • Promote the continuous advancement of safety and accident prevention technology;
    • Strive for a universal level of professionalism and competence among its members, professionals and practitioners in the multi-discipline of occupational and environmental safety, health and accident prevention;
  2. The World Safety Organization (WSO), USA presents the International award 2020 for WSO Concerned company/Corporation who ensure strict safety standards and only six companies are selected every year for this award among many applicants at the global stage. This prestigious award has been received by Chennai Metro Rail Limited from India for this year.
  3. The above mentioned award was presented to CMRL in recognition of ensuring exemplary safety standards, effective maintenance of Safety records, periodic conduct of safety /environment programs to the site engineers /staff on various aspects of safety measures to be followed for protection of people, property, resources, environment and for showing distinctive concern for the well-being of its employees and local community. 

Ridership:

The Chennai Metro Rail resumed its services in a graded manner from 07-09-2020.

  • A total of 19,21,962 passengers have travelled in the Metro Train from 07.09.2020 to 30.11.2020.
  • A total of 3,60,193 passengers have travelled in the Metro Train from 07.09.2020 to 30.09.2020.
  • A total of 7,03,223 passengers have travelled in the Metro Train from 01.10.2020 to 31.10.2020.
  • A total of 8,58,546 passengers have travelled in the Metro Train from 01.11.2020 to 30.11.2020.
  • On 23.11.2020 a total of 38,615 passengers have used the Metro Train to commute.

Ticketing:

  • In the month of November, 2020 a total of 21,579 passengers have utilised the recently launched QR code ticketing system. 
  • While 4,72,027 passengers have used Travel Card Ticketing System.
  • CMRL offers a 20% discount on QR Code ticketing namely Single Journey Q.R Ticket, Return Journey Q.R Ticket, Group Q.R Ticket and Q.R Trip passes from 11.09.2020. 
  • 10% discount is already available for passengers using Travel Cards.

Other initiatives:

  • All the Entrance gates at all Metro Stations have been opened for Public use considering the convenience and welfare of Public and Chennai Metro Rail Passengers. 
  • Also, all the facilities inside the Metro Stations such as Lifts, Escalators and Subways connecting the Entrance of Metro Stations are also being opened to benefit the Public and Metro Rail Passengers.
  • CMRL has requested all its passengers to co-operate with CMRL security, Ticketing and other staff for a safe and smooth travel in its effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by maintaining social distancing.
