Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) signed a contract agreement with M/s Alstom Transport India Limited worth Rs. 269 Crores for the supply of Rolling Stock for Phase-2 project.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited signed a supplementary contract agreement with M/s Alstom Transport India Limited on 27th November 2023, for the supply of an additional 10 train sets, each comprising a 3-car formation (30 cars) of Driverless (UTO – Unattended Train Operation). The total value of this supplementary contract is INR 269 Crore, inclusive of taxes and duties.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems and Operations), CMRL and Mr. Rajeev Joisar, Commercial Director – India & South Asia, Alstom Transport India Limited. Mr. A.R. Rajendran, CGM (RS), Senior Officials and Staff of CMRL and Alstom Transport India Ltd. were present during the occasion.
Brief about Contract:
- This agreement is executed under the provisions of the ARE-03A contract, which was awarded to M/s Alstom Transport India Limited on 17th November 2022.
- ARE-03A contract entails supply of 26 numbers of Driverless (UTO – Unattended Train Operation) train sets, each consisting of a 3-car formation (totalling 78 cars).
- With the signing of the supplementary agreement, the number of trains ordered with M/s Alstom Transport India Limited will be 36 trains of 3-car formations (totalling 108 cars).
- The contract includes supply of driverless trains including the design, manufacture, testing, commissioning of standard gauge metro rolling stock, training of personnel, supply of spare parts and defect liability.
- The total completion time is around 28 months. The trains are planned to be maintained and operated from the maintenance depot that is being constructed in Poonamallee of Metro Corridor-4.
