Chennai Metro Update: Mr. M.A. Siddique, Managing Director, CMRL inspects Madhavaram Metro Train Depot

Mr. M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, inspected the Madhavaram Depot site, which is being built at a cost of Rs. 284.51 crores on an area of 48.89 acres as part of the Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase-II.

More Details:

  • The Madhavaram Depot is being built to accommodate 110 metro trains, each with three coaches.
  • A total of 24 track lines are being built, including 10 for the stabling yard, 7 for the workshop bay and deep clean bay, and 7 for the inspection Bay.
  • On these tracks, 110 metro trains can be stopped. In addition, a 1.4-kilometer test track line will be built.

  • The Depot will be used for metro train maintenance and cleaning. The Madhavaram Depot construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. CMRL’s Managing Director stated this during a visit to the Madhavaram Depot.
  • T. Archunan, Director (Projects), Chief General Manager B.S. Srinivas (Arbitration), Team Leader Tony Burchell (GC1), Package Head Durga Prasad (GC1), Manager P. Venkatreddy (Civil), and other Senior Officials were present during the inspection.

About Chennai Metro Phase-2:

  • Phase II expansion has been planned for a length of 118.9 Km network with 128 nos. of Stations.
  • It consists of three Corridors i.e. Corridor -3 – From Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km), Corridor -4 – From Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1 Km), Corridor-5- From Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 Km).
  • The estimated cost of the project is ₹63246/- Cr (Rupees Sixty three thousand two hundred and forty six only) (including IDC).
  • The project is proposed to be completed by the end of 2026.
