Chennai Metro’s expansion gains momentum: Systra MVA Consulting secures contract

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has taken a significant stride forward in bolstering its urban transit network by entering into a contract with Systra MVA Consulting for the extension of the metro line.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited signed the contract agreement for “Providing Consultancy Services towards Reassessment of Travel Demand Forecasting Study for implementing Mass Rapid Transit System from Tambaram to Velachery extending to either Guindy or Little Mount and updating the existing DFR” with M/s Systra MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Scope of Work:

  • The scope of work involves preparation of a Travel Demand Forecasting Study for implementing Mass Rapid Transit System between Tambaram and Velachery, extending to either Guindy or Little Mount for a 26 km corridor.
  • As per the earlier DFR submitted to GoTN, the corridor was considered only up to Velachery MRTS station and did not consider connection to existing Metro stations through main commercial and residential areas of Velachery.
  • Hence the re-assessment of the Travel Demand Forecasting study is being undertaken.

Key Officials Presence:

  • The Contract Agreement was signed by Mr. T. Archunan, IRSE – Director (Projects) on behalf of CMRL and Mr. Sandeep Fuller – Senior Vice President, on behalf of M/s Systra MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.
  • Mr. T. Livingstone Eliazer, Chief General Manager (PP&D), Mr. S. Ashok Kumar, Chief General Manager (T&EC), Dr. D. Jebaselwin Gladson, General Manager (CM), and other Officials from CMRL and the Consultant were present during the occasion.

This contract signifies a pivotal milestone in Chennai’s endeavour to expand its metro network, addressing the burgeoning demand for efficient and sustainable urban transportation solutions.
