Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Eastern Circle inspected the doubling work of Dhulianganga – New Farakka stations of Eastern Railway and accorded authorization for running train at a speed of 90 kmph.

More details:

  • The Sagradighi – Malda Town doubling project was sanctioned by Railway Board in Oct’2016. The doubling work was planned to commission in two phases.
  • First phase from Nimtita to Dhulianganga stations was commissioned in July’2019.
  • The 2nd phase of the project from Dhulianganga to New Farakka stations is commissioned on 13.04.2022.
  • The doubling project consists of 30 minor concrete bridges.
  • Low level passenger platforms of Dhulian Ganga to Sankopara and Ballalpur station have converted to high level passenger platforms.
  • one subway is provided at PF No. 1 of New Farakka station. New foot over bridges have also been provided for passenger amenities.
  • Non-interlocking of three stations parallel to each other was a very challenging work.
  • New Farakka is a bottle neck of goods and passenger trains to North East India because there is Farakka barrage over river Ganga in front of station and there is three dimensional traffic due to Y shape geometry of yard.
  • Eastern Railway Head Quarters planned to complete non-interlocking within shortest possible time. 38 nos. of point and crossing were planned for dismantling and insertion in non-interlocking and the work was successfully completed in scheduled programme.
  • Doubling work will improve punctuality of Mail/Express and Passenger trains running between Azimganj – New Farakka section.
  • It will improve coal supply to Sagardighi coal plant and also improve overall mobility over Malda Division.
