Eastern Railway carries out sanitization and cleanliness of coaches & station premises to prevent spread of Covid-19

Eastern Railway has laid great stress o­n sanitization and cleanliness drives with the resumption of suburban train services, long distance special trains and short distance passenger train services in both Howrah & Sealdah Divisions. All the sanitization work carried out o­n arrival of rakes at depots, stage-wise with cleaning & housekeeping. 

  • Finally the rakes are being offered for passengers at service under sanitizing surveillance of o­n Board HouseKeepers (OBHS staff) who are engaged to ensure periodical sanitization of different touch points at regular intervals as well as o­n demand of the passengers.
  • All the surfaces including seat, berth, rexines are wiped and sanitized. Door-way basins, lavatory basins, flushing walls, tap knobs, lavatory handles, communication door handles, snack tables, mini pantry knob, side berth support handle, hand wash container, push knob and other touch points are being sanitized by OBHS staff also. 
  • Awareness campaign by OBHS staff regarding Do’s & Don’ts to prevent the spread of the virus is also being undertaken. 
  • All the curtains have been removed and blankets withdrawn from service to prevent the spread of Coronavirus among the boarded passengers.
  • In the station premises in both Howrah & Sealdah Divisions, frequency of cleaning & sanitization of platforms, urinals, toilets & concourse, waiting rooms, Ticket booking areas, trains, tracks, water vending points and passenger interfaces have been increased. 
  • Special attention is laid o­n sanitization of walls and seats, scrubbing & fogging of passenger amenity areas with hypochlorite solution, moist cleaning of handrails, doors and frequently touched areas with appropriate solution.
  • Mechanized cleaning of platforms, tracks & adjacent areas are being done with the help of high pressure water jets, scrubber machines etc. 
  • Frequency of dry sweeping of platforms, station premises and tracks have been increased.
  • Eastern Railway o­n its path has intensified sanitization and cleanliness drives in trains as well as in station premises, in both Howrah & Sealdah Divisions to combat COVID-19 virus. 
  • Passengers are earnestly requested to observe COVID appropriate behaviour and use mask/face covers, carry hand sanitisers, observe physical distancing and not to avail train journey if they feel physically unwell.
