Eastern Railway successfully completes Boinchi-Shaktigarh 3rd line project in record time

Rasulpur-Shaktigarh 3rd line work has been successfully completed by Eastern Railway in record time thereby accomplishing Boinchi-Shaktigarh 3rd line project, which is a supercritical project.

More details:

  • Completion of this project will improve mobility & speed of the entire Howrah – Bardhhaman stretch and line capacity over both Howrah – Bardhhaman main line as well chord line.
  • The commissioning of 3rd line has been successfully done after massive non-interlocking work which involved remodelling & electronic interlocking (EI) work of Shaktigarh yard which is a critical junction of Howrah – New Delhi Chord line & Main line.
  • The difficult work involved cutting & connecting all the three lines in the block section due to typical layout. The herculean work of yard remodelling and cut & connect in the mid section including TRD and S&T works completed in 11 days’ pre Non-interlocking (NI) & 48 hours’ non-interlocking.
  • The Electronic Interlocking (EI) was done at Shaktigarh for 154 routes and at Rasulpur for 76 routes. Major overhead wire (OHE) modification work was also involved in this work at Shaktigarh yard over seven (7) crossovers and other 350 structures. For completing this mammoth work within the prescribed time frame, 750 labourers, 17 supervisors, 150 overhead (OHE) wire workers & 6 officers were deployed continuously day & night.
  • Commissioner of Railway Safety inspected the last block section of the above project, i.e., Rasulpur – Shaktigarh (6.95 km) with detailed trolley inspection followed by speed trail. CRS was satisfied that the inspection & authorisation is expected shortly for commissioning of this mega third line project.
  • Generally, work of such magnitude involving yard remodelling & introduction of new system of interlocking of signals requires several days’ restriction of train traffic movement.
  • To avoid such inordinately lengthy traffic blocks, innovative planning was done for commissioning work thereby ensuring minimum traffic disruption & less passenger inconvenience. Adept & dedicated workforce of Eastern Railway were able to complete the super critical project with minimum possible disturbance to normal train movement.
  • After commissioning of the all important 3rd line project, the movement of trains over Eastern Railway’s Howrah division (in both Main and Chord lines) will be eased up substantially resulting in significant improvement in punctuality of mail/express & suburban trains. Moreover, it will enhance the average speed of mail/express/passenger/EMU & goods trains by virtue of which the suburban passengers will be greatly benefitted.
