Eastern Railway’s Bhagalpur station (within Malda Division) has received the prestigious “IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Green Railway Station Silver Rating” by CII (Confederation of Indian Industries).
More details:
- The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), with the support of the Environment Directorate of Indian Railways, has developed the Green Railway Stations Rating System to facilitate adoption of green concepts, thereby reducing the adverse environmental impacts due to station operation & maintenance and enhancing the overall commuter experience.
- The Green Rating System helps to address national priorities like water conservation, handling of waste, energy efficiency, reduced use of fossil fuels, lesser dependence on usage of virgin materials and health & well-being of occupants.
- Bhagalpur Railway Station (BGP) of Malda division was evaluated according to this system and accelerated by SILVER rating. Various energy efficient and environmental friendly measures undertaken by Malda division are detailed hereunder:
- Development of ecological parks at both sides of the station and vertical gardens at circulating areas by removing jungles.
- Development of sitting area and beautification of circulating area.
- Construction of Green Sick Line shade fitted with 18 no. turbo ventilator and polycarbonate sheet.
- Construction of a bio-gas plant and water recycling plant at Bhagalpur station is underway.
- Building of a huge parking facility at station premises.
- Illumination of the station premises by 100% LED lighting.
- High pressure coach watering system for trains.
- Automatic coach washing plants and recycling of water causing massive savings of water and manpower.
- Recycling of plastic items and waste from stations.
- Rainwater harvesting system at Bhagalpur coach yard.
- All other compliances as per IGBC norms for Green Rating Certification.
