Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India visited Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu on 28th February 2024. At a function held in Tuticorin Harbour, he dedicated to the Nation the Doubling project between Vanchi Maniyachchi – Tirunelveli & Melappalayam – Aralvaymoli (total 86 Kms.) benefiting the state of Tamil Nadu. The above Doubling projects of around Rs. 1477 Crore offer seamless connectivity in Chennai- Madurai – Kanniyakumari Corridor, boosting operational efficiency in the region.
Benefits of Doubling:
The doubling of Vanchi Maniyachchi – Tirunelveli and Melappalayam – Aralvaymoli sections will greatly benefit the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly in the districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari. These both sections come under the jurisdiction of Southern Railway.

The project enhances operational efficiency in the Tirunelveli – Nagercoil sector, reducing travel time between Chennai – Nagercoil and Chennai – Kanyakumari. It facilitates seamless operation of passenger and freight services, fostering economic growth in the region.
