More Details:

The underwater stretch of the metro, which runs from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan on the Green Line, will cover a distance of 4.8 kilometres under the river Hooghly in 45 seconds. The route is a part of the larger East-West Metro corridor linking Howrah Maiden to Salt Lake Sector V, a major IT hub in West Bengal.

Jindal Supplied:

  • Jindal Stainless has supplied SS 301LN – a premium austenitic grade of stainless steel – in different tempers for fabrication of various components of the Kolkata Metro, underscoring its sustainable versatility and suitability for diverse purposes.
  • Being corrosion-resistant, it will also not require regular repair and maintenance, and emerges as the most cost effective solution on the basis of life cycle costing.
  • Howrah will be the deepest metro station in the country, at 33 metres below the ground. The tunnel under the river constructed for this metro line is 32 metres below the water level.
