Kolkata Metro Breaks New Ground with Successful Trial Runs of Automatic Train Operation System on Green Line

In a major leap towards development, Metro Railway (Kolkata) successfully conducted trial runs with Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system between Salt Lake Sector V to the Sealdah stretch of Green Line.

Trial runs were conducted with Automatic Train Operation (ATO) System mode in between Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah stretch of East-West (Green Line) Metro today i.e. o­n 28.01.2024. During the trial run in ATO mode, the rake travelled with a maximum speed of 74 km/hr. The trial started from 9.00 hrs. and continued till 11.00 hrs today. Two round-trip trial runs were conducted successfully.

Brief Information:

  • The East-West Metro Corridor is equipped with the Communication Based Train Control System (CBCTC).
  • This system consists of Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) facilities.
  • Automatic Train Operation (ATO) mode testing was done by checking the automatic braking, motoring, coasting and stopping of the train within the specified speed profile.
  • Train in ATO mode accelerates, decelerates, controls and arranges motoring activities automatically.
  • Testing of accurate stopping at the platforms and automatic opening of correct side train doors and Platform Screen Doors (PSD) were checked during the runs.
