Kolkata Metro introduces Paper-Based QR Code Ticketing System at all stations of the East-West Metro Corridor

In a remarkable move towards providing convenience for the passengers, Kolkata Metro has approved a Paper-Based QR Code Ticketing System at all stations of the East-West Metro Corridor.

After Sealdah, Central Park, Karunamoyee and Salt Lake Sector V stations, now Paper -Based QR Code Ticketing System has been introduced in rest of the four stations of East-West Metro (Green Line) i.e. Phoolbagan, Bengal Chemical, Salt Lake Stadium and City Centre.

This facility has been made available in these four stations from 11th January, 2024 onwards. Now Metro commuters will be able to purchase Paper- Based QR Code Tickets from all the stations of Green Line. Apart from this, tokens and Smart Cards will also be available across all the stations. “Kolkata Metro Ride” App based tickets will also be available as usual.

Earlier Progress:

  • It is to be noted that this alternative Paper-Based QR Code ticketing system was introduced first in Green Line o­n 11.10.2023 at Sealdah Metro station.
  • Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has developed this system which has already become popular among the Metro commuters.
  • Commuters have welcomed this new move of the Metro Authorities. Passengers’ response about this new QR Code Paper-Based ticketing system has been very good today.
  • Metro Railway Authorities have been constantly taking steps to improve passenger -friendly amenities in the Metro premises.

Expansion of Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System is a part of that endeavour and this facility will be extended further to enable Metro commuters to avail Metro services by purchasing Paper-Based QR Code Ticket from all the stations of Green Line.

All the AFC-PC gates of different stations of Green Line have already been upgraded to make this new ticketing system successful. If this Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System is successful in East-West Metro then gradually it will also be implemented in Kavi Subhash to Dakshineswar and Joka to Taratala stretches of Blue Line and Purple Line respectively.

The introduction of the Paper-Based QR Code Ticketing System by Kolkata Metro is a significant step towards enhancing passenger convenience. With this system being available at all stations of the East-West Metro Corridor, commuters will be able to easily purchase tickets using QR codes, tokens, Smart Cards, or the “Kolkata Metro Ride” App.
