Kolkata Metro Update: RVNL starts the construction work of Park Street Metro Station of Purple Line

The construction work of Park Street Metro Station of Metro Railway (Kolkata) has been taken up by the executing agency Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). RVNL has started barricading the area required for construction of this underground station.

More Details:

  • The construction work of Park Street station has been taken up by the executing agency Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). RVNL has started barricading the area required for construction of this underground station.
  • In order to construct this station, a few Maidan club tents will also be dismantled first and reconstructed again after completion of construction work. Several trees will also be transplanted to pave the way for this work. At present RVNL engineers have started the mobilisation work before the construction work starts.
  • After completion of barricading work, a 12-metre deep diaphragm wall will be built for construction of Park Street station which will be around 325-metre long and 23.5-meter wide. This station will be spread over an area of approximately 11,300 sq. metre.

  • Vibration Impact Study has already been done to assess the vibration levels likely to be generated during the construction and operations of Metro Railway. Health study of the nearby buildings will also be done.
  • Different measures will also be taken to reduce the air and noise pollution, especially at the Maidan area during the construction work of this station. Experts of IIT-Guwahati will also be consulted to check the drawing proof of this station.

The Implementing Agency Rail Vikas Nigam Limited:

Like all other Metro Projects in the city, Purple Line i.e. Joka-Esplanade Metro Corridor has gained momentum in recent times. Joka-Taratala stretch of this corridor was inaugurated o­n 30th December, 2022. Construction work of Majerhat Metro station has reached its final stage and this station will be commissioned very soon.

Construction work of the Majerhat to Esplanade stretch of the Purple Line has also got underway. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), the implementing agency is set a target to complete the work within 48 months.After the commissioning of Majerhat-Esplanade section, commuting from south-western part of Kolkata i.e. Taratala, Behala, Thakurpukur and Joka areas to Central Kolkata will be smooth and easy.

Like Victoria station, Park Street station o­n this stretch will also be constructed underground beside the present Park Street station of North-South Corridor. The distance between these two stations will be 8 metres.

Park Street station will be o­ne of the four underground stations of Purple Line. People from different parts of the city will be able to reach Park Street, an iconic place of Kolkataafter commissioning of this station very easily. This station will serve as the interchange point of the Blue Line and Purple Line.

Commuters of suburban areas will change Corridors here to reach their destinations. People across the city and suburbs will also be able to visit the Brigade Parade Ground famously known as ‘Garer Maath’ and can enjoy blissful summer and winter afternoons and evenings after getting down here.
