Kolkata Metro’s East-West Corridor (Green Line) carries 36.97 lakhs passengers between April to July 2023

Kolkata Metro’s East-West Metro (Green Line) carried 36.97 lacs passengers from 01.04.2023 to 31.07.2023, in comparison to 6.89 lacs passengers carried in the same period of the previous financial year. This is almost a 436% increase than last year.

  • East-West Metro (Green Line) has been gaining immense popularity over the years. Stretch from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V, present operational stretch of this corridor, has been enabling the commuters from the suburbs and the city to avail Metro services from Sealdah to reach any part of Salt Lake without any hassle.
  • Such smooth and comfortable travelling experience which also saves valuable time, has been the key reason for this popularity. As a result, the footfalls in East-West Metro have increased manifold in the first four months of this fiscal (2023-24) in comparison to the same period of the last fiscal (2022-23).
  • In June and July 2023, monthly passenger counts were 9.16 lacs and 10.09 lacs respectively. In June and July 2022, these passenger counts were 0.61 lacs and 5.30 lakhs respectively.This signifies that during the two months of monsoon in this year, there has been a quantum jump in comparative footfalls.
  • It is worth mentioning here that in East-West Metro footfalls have significantly increased after the opening of Sealdah Metro station on 14.07.2022. Commuters have chosen East-West Metro as it is the cheapest and fastest mode of transport in Kolkata and Salt Lake.
  • Shri Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer of Metro Railway has thanked all commuters for reposing their faith in Kolkata Metro. He has said that all out efforts are being made to open Howrah Maidan to Esplanade stretch of this Corridor under the river Hooghly by this year-end.
