MRIDC Update: 9 Road over Bridges (ROBs) commissioned across the various locations of Pune region

Maha Rail has completed the construction of another 09 (nine) ROBs across the state which are now ready to be opened for traffic. The inauguration of these newly constructed 09 (nine) ROBs and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of 11 (eleven) new ROBs/RUBs under Setu Bandhan Scheme is being held at Police Headquarters Ground, Shivaji Nagar, Pune.

More Details:

  • Maharashtra’s extensive road network and five major Railway Zones intersect across the state, creating more than 2,450 level crossings (LCs). These LCs pose a significant risk of traffic congestion and accidents, not only in Maharashtra but all over India.
  • To eliminate these level crossings in view of making Maharashtra a “Railway-Fatak Free State”, Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Maharashtra and Ministry of Railways have entrusted Maha Rail with construction of 100 Road Over Bridges (ROBs)/Road Under Bridges (RUBs) across the state.
  • Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (MRIDC) has successfully inaugurated 06 ROBs and performed Bhumipujan for another 06 ROBs in Nagpur on 15-04-2023.
  • The Inauguration and Bhumi Pujan ceremony includes Road Over Bridges from Ahmednagar, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Dharashiv, Thane, Palghar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Buldhana and Nagpur districts of Maharashtra.
  • The Inauguration and the Bhoomi Pujan will be carried out at the August hands of Shri Nitin Gadkari (Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways), Shri Eknath Shinde (Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra) and Shri Devendra Fadnavis (Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra).
  • The ceremony will also boast the presence of Shri Kapil Patil (Hon’ble Minister for State, Panchyati Raj), Shri Chandrakant Patil (Hon’ble Guardian Minister of Pune), Shri Ravindra Chavan (Hon’ble PWD Minister), Hon’ble Guardian Ministers of respective districts, Shri Ajit Dada Pawar (Hon’ble leader of Opposition) and Hon’ble Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Council, Members of Legislative Assembly of respective constituencies as per the ROB locations, Officials from Pune Municipal Corporation, Railways, Public Works Department, Police Department and Shri Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal (Managing Director of Maha Rail) will also be present during this occasion.

On the momentous occasion of this ceremony, Shri Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal, Managing Director of Maha Rail said, “Maha Rail is implementing state-of-the-art Rail infrastructure in Maharashtra. This is a proud moment for us as today we are inaugurating completed 09 (Nine) ROBs and laying Foundation Stone for new Eleven ROBs.

On 15th April 2023, we inaugurated 06 (six) completed ROBs in Nagpur district and laid the foundation stone for the other 06 (six) ROBs in Vidarbha region. Maha Rail is constructing more than 100 Road Over Bridges across Maharashtra and has opened 15 ROBs for road traffic in a span of less than two months. This is the first time in the country that this feat has been achieved in such a short span of time.

Considering this commendable track-record of Maha Rail, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis had said during the Nagpur event that we will complete the construction of 50 ROBs/RUBs by the end of 2024. Maha Rail is determined to complete these ROBs in the stipulated time.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Railways, PWD, MoRTH, MCGM, MMRDA, KDMC and all Municipal Corporations in Maharashtra for entrusting MahaRail with various projects.

These bridges will reduce the traffic congestion in the area and provide ease and convenience to commuters. It will also play a vital role in improving the overall economic development of the region.”
