Mumbai Metro Line-2B: MMRDA awards civil work contract to J. Kumar Infraprojects

In a significant step towards improving urban mobility in the Mumbai region, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to M/s J. Kumar Infraprojects Ltd. The contract includes civil work at five elevated metro stations of Mumbai Metro Line-2B.

Tender Details:

  • Tender Reference Number: MMRDA/MPIU/ML2B/CA-158
  • Name of Work: Design, supply, fabrication and erection of pre-engineering building structural steel works and execution of internal & external architectural finishings, plumbing works including interior fitouts for 5 elevated stations viz. Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL metro, Mankhurd & Mandale of Line 2B corridor [D.N. Nagar to Mandale] of Mumbai Metro rail project of MMRDA.
  • The Contract Period is: 56 Weeks
  • The Awarded Value of the Tender is: Rs. 99,29,71,000/-

Scope of Works under the Contract:

  • The contractor has to remove the temporary works and the rectification of defects appearing in Permanent Works in the manner and to the standards and within the time stipulated by the Contract.
  • In full recognition of this objective, and with full acceptance of the obligations, liabilities and risks which may be involved, the Contractor shall undertake the execution of the Works.
  • The Permanent Works shall be constructed to the highest standards available using proven up-to- date good Engineering practices.
  • The Specification shall in any case not specify standards which, in the Engineer’s opinion, are less than or inferior to those described Technical/Construction Specifications contained in the Tender Documents.
  • Construction shall be carried out employing the procedures established by the Contractor in his Quality, Safety Health, and Environmental management plans.

The Contractor shall execute the Works in two phases, the Design Phase, and the Construction Phase:

  • The Design Phase shall commence upon the date of issue of Letter of Acceptance. This phase shall include the preparation and submission of:
    • The Preliminary Design
    • The Definitive Design; and
    • The Construction Reference Drawings.
  • The Design Phase will be complete upon the issue of a Notice in respect of the comprehensive and complete submission of the Construction Reference Drawings & approval of submitted shop drawings for the whole of the Permanent Works.
  • The requirements for the Preliminary Design, Definitive Design and Construction Reference Drawings are stated in Clause 2 of the Employer’s Requirements -Design.

The Construction Phase for the whole or a part of the Permanent Works shall commence immediately upon the issue of a Notice by the Engineer/Employer in respect of the relevant Construction Reference Drawings Submission. Such Notice may be issued by the Engineer in respect of a Construction Reference Drawing Submission covering a major and distinctive part of the Permanent Works. However, construction shall not be commenced until the original negatives of the appropriate Working Drawings have been endorsed:

  • By the Contractor as “Good for Construction”; and
  • By the Engineer that he has no objections to the drawing.
  • The Construction Phase shall include the completion and submission of the Final Design and the preparation and submission of the As Built Drawings and other records as specified.
  • Notwithstanding Clause 4(4) above, for those elements identified under Clause 2(6) of the Employer’s Requirements – Design, the Construction Phase may commence immediately upon the issue of the Notice in respect of the Definitive Design Submission in respect of each such element subject to availability of the site in accordance with agreed programme.

The development to award a civil work contract to J. Kumar Infraprojects is in line with MMRDA’s plans for the rapid expansion of the Mumbai Metro Network in order to address the specific travel needs of the dynamic city and at the same time ensuring the safety of passengers and sustainability needs of the infrastructure.
