Mumbai Metro update: Last I-Girder erected for Metro Line 2A at Adarsh Nagar

The last I-Girder of Metro Line 2A was erected today in place at the Adarsh Nagar Junction in the presence of Shri S.V.R. Srinivas IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

  • The rehabilitation of more than 40 families & businesses was completed in 10 days for this I-Girder launch.
  • The missing link of AC-02 project since more than 4 years was cleared to successfully complete the last viaduct girder.
  • Weighing at 42 tons, this 24 Mt long I-Girder was erected in place in 30 mins with the collaborative effort of MMRDA & DMRC officials. 
  • This was the last launching of I-Girder on viaduct of Metro Line 2A, which completes the track surface for this 18.5km long Metro Line. 
  • Hence, the metro team can now initiate the track laying process on this last stretch of Line 2A.

Trial Run:

Meanwhile, Shri S.V.R. Srinivas recently reviewed the Trial Run with an onboard inspection of the Metro Train trial run & electronic systems. Shri S.V.R. Srinivas IAS, also inspected the functioning of the Charkop Metro Depot, the Operations & Maintenance hub for Metro Line 2A & Line 7. 

  • The Metropolitan Commissioner held a review meeting at the Charkop Metro Depot with the officials from different agencies.
  • With the Metro Catch Up Plan, the Metropolitan Commissioner has instructed the team to put extra effort to speed up the Trial Runs.
  • In today’s visit, the Metropolitan Commissioner reviewed the results of braking & acceleration system tests in addition to inspecting other key features of the metro train.
  • Along with the Metro Trial Run, the Metropolitan Commissioner on 29.09.2021 also reviewed several ongoing tests. 
  • Including the Station testing for passenger facilities such as lifts, escalators, passenger information systems, platform screen doors, and AFC gates.

About Mumbai Metro Line 2A (Dahisar – D.N. Nagar):

  • Metro Line 2A from Dahisar to D N Nagar is 18.589 km. long elevated corridor with 17 stations.
  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Lines 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale) & 7 (Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E)) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
  • It shall facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Dahisar and D N Nagar.
  • It shall provide connectivity between the Western, Central Mumbai and the Northern suburban Mumbai.
  • It shall provide rail based access to the commercial and geographical landmarks in Mumbai.
  • It shall reduce the current travel time by anything between 50% and 75% depending on road conditions.
