Mumbai Metro update: New Road-Rail Shunter Loco & Mover inaugurated for Charkop Metro Depot

Shri. R.A.Rajeev (Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA) on 06th Dec 2020, inaugurated the new Road-Rail Shunter Loco & Mover for the Charkop Metro Depot. These locomotives will carry-out shunting operations for the non-powered metro car trains. 

• The Road-cum-Rail Mover (RMM) & the Diesel Shunting Loco will be able to haul an 8 car train set (360t) to serve the integral purpose of maintenance of electric metro train sets at the depot workshop. 
• Ms. Adeshree Thakare was the first train operator to start these locomotives. 
• The RMM & Road-cum-Rail Diesel Shunting Loco are fitted with various features & advanced safety measures. 
• This will help in important maintenance work & sustain the optimum performance of metro trains to provide safe & easy commutes with the goal of achieving.

Project progress:

1. Mumbai Metro Line 2A (Dahisar – D.N. Nagar):

Overview:

• Metro Line 2A from Dahisar to D N Nagar is 18.589 km. long elevated corridor with 17 stations.
• It will provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Lines 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale) & 7 (Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E)) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
• It will facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Dahisar and D N Nagar.
• The Metro line will provide connectivity between the Western, Central Mumbai and the Northern suburban Mumbai.
• It will reduce the current travel time by anything between 50% and 75% depending on road conditions.

2. Mumbai Metro Line 7 (Andheri East – Dahisar East):

Overview:

• Metro Line 7 from Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E) is 16.475 km. long elevated corridor with 13 stations.
• It will provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
• It will facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Andheri, JVLR and Dahisar.
• Tke Metro line will provide connectivity between Central Mumbai and the Northern suburban Mumbai.
• It will reduce the current travel time by anything between 50% and 75% depending on road conditions.
