NHSRCL Achieves Landmark: 100% land acquisition Completed for Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor

In a significant milestone, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) proudly announces the completion of 100% land acquisition for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor.

National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited’s project status as of 8th January, 2024 is given below.

Project Highlights:

  • All civil contracts awarded for Gujarat and Maharashtra.
  • 120.4 km of girders have been launched and 271 km of pier casting have been completed.
  • Completion of 100% land acquisition in Gujarat, DNH and Maharashtra.
  • The laying of first Reinforced Concrete (RC) track bed for the MAHSR corridor track system as used in Japanese Shinkansen has started in Surat and Anand. This is for the first time, the J-slab ballastless track system is being used in India.
  • Achieved a remarkable milestone with the completion of the first mountain tunnel of 350 m length and 12.6 m diameter located near Zaroli Village in Valsad, Gujarat in just 10 months.

  • The first steel bridge, spanning 70 metres and weighing 673 MT was erected across NH 53 in Surat, Gujarat. 16 such bridges out of 28 are under various stages of fabrication.
  • The bridge works on six rivers out of total 24 river bridges on MAHSR corridor viz. Par (Valsad district), Purna (Navsari district), Mindhola (Navsari district), Ambika (Navsari district), Auranga (Valsad district) and Venganiya (Navsari district) have been completed. Work on other rivers viz., Narmada, Tapti, Mahi and Sabarmati are in progress.
  • To mitigate the noise which will be generated by the train and civil structures during operations, noise barriers are being erected on either side of the viaduct.

  • Commencement of work for India’s first 7 km undersea rail tunnel which is a part of 21 km long tunnel between BKC and Shilphata in Maharashtra.
  • Excavation works for construction of Mumbai HSR station have been started.

Progress of Works in Gujarat:

Viaduct: Total- 352 km:

  • Pile + Open Foundation: 343.9 km
  • Foundation: 294.5 km
  • Pier (including stations): 271 km
  • Pier (excluding stations): 268.5 km
  • No. of Girders: 3797
  • Girder Casting: 152 km
  • Viaduct (Girder Launching): 120.4 km

Special Bridges: 28 Crossings over National & State Highways, Irrigation Canals and Railways (17 in Gujarat, 11 in Maharashtra) to be bridged by long span Steel structures.

Stations & Depots:

In Gujarat:

  • Works on all 8 HSR Stations (Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad & Sabarmati) are under various stages of construction:
    • Foundation work completed for all 8 HSR stations
    • Vapi Station: – Rail level slab (200 m) completed.
    • Bilimora Station: – Casting of 288 m Rail level slab completed.
    • Surat Station: – Concourse slab and Rail level slab (450 m) completed. Casting of Platform level slab started and 557 m of casting has been done.
    • Anand Station: – Concourse slab and Rail level slab (425 m) completed. 124 m platform level slab completed.
    • Ahmedabad Station: – Concourse slab (435 m) completed.
    • Surat Depot: – Foundation & superstructure works completed.
    • Sabarmati Depot: – Earthwork completed; OHE foundation work is in progress.

In Maharashtra:

  • Work for Mumbai HSR station in Maharashtra started. 99% Secant pile completed. 104,421 cum excavations have been done.
  • Anchor fixing work has started that will facilitate the excavation for the second level.
  • Geotech work for the rest of the alignment in Maharashtra including 3 stations (Boisar, Virar and Thane) is under progress.

NHSRCL’s accomplishment of 100% land acquisition signifies a pivotal step forward in realising the ambitious MAHSR corridor. 

The progress, from tunnel construction to undersea rail tunnels, underscores the project’s magnitude and the organisation’s commitment to transforming India’s rail landscape.
