Northeast Frontier Railway to speed up cargo movement under PM Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal initiative

Under Northeast Frontier Railway, 02 no’s of Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminal have already been commissioned each at Moinarband & Cinnamara, works are in progress at various locations. NFR is also planning to set up new terminals at Sairang, Sabroom & Sekerkote under the Lumding Division.

More Details:

  • To achieve the goals set out in PM Gati Shakti framework, a master circular o­n “Policy for Management of Railway land” which includes provisions for leasing of railway land for cargo related activities, public infrastructure, railway exclusives use, etc. has been issued o­n 04.10.2022.
  • Railway land can be leased for cargo related projects/facilities for periods up to 35 years at annual lease charges of 1.5% of market value of land by transparent methods of competitive bidding. The revised railway land management policies will enable integrated development of infrastructure.
  • A master circular related to development of Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminals Railway has been issued o­n 06.12.2022. Since such commercial policies are open-ended programmes continuing o­n railways, consequential development of cargo terminals coupled with generation of sizeable employment is also likely to be a continuous process in future.
  • Under the jurisdiction of N.F. Railway 02 no’s of Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminal have already been commissioned each at Moinarband under Lumding division and Cinnamara under Tinsukia division o­n 29th March and 05th August, 2022 respectively.
  • Works are in progress for Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminal at Deotala, Balurghat, Bathnaha under Katihar division, Basugaon under Alipurduar division, Jogighopa, Baihata under Rangiya division. Further N.F. Railway is planning to set up Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminal at Sairang (Mizoram), Sabroom (Tripura) and Sekerkote (Tripura) under Lumding division.
  • Commissioning of the Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminals will make the cargo handling and transportation by using roadways, waterways and railways much faster and in an efficient & cost-effective manner.
  • PM Gati Shakti initiative aims for seamless and simplified coordinated infrastructure projects. Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals will further aid to streamline Railways cargo movement as well as eliminate bottlenecks for transportation to benefit the last mile customer.
