Patna Metro Rail Project achieves historic tunnel breakthrough

In a landmark achievement for the Patna Metro Rail Project, the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)-01 celebrated its inaugural tunnel breakthrough at the Patna University metro station on Wednesday, 20th March 2024. This momentous occasion marks a significant leap forward in the city’s metro rail project, underlining the engineering prowess and dedication of the team involved.

Patna Metro Rail Project achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday, 20th March 2024 as the 450-t EPB TBM -01 achieved its first tunnel breakthrough. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), reached the Patna University metro station, marking the first tunnel breakthrough for the city-shaping Patna Metro. The breakthrough was initiated by Advisor (Special Works) Shri Daljeet Singh.

The TBMs work till date in this Project:

  • The TBM was commissioned in the month of May 2023 at Moin Ul Haq stadium, which constructed a 1.5 km long tunnel between MUH and Patna university.
  • TBM-1 has worked around the clock to build a 1.5 km of fully lined tunnel, which completes the first drive of its 1.5 km journey towards the Gandhi Maidan.

  • Being a densely populated and old building structure, this stretch was one of the most challenging stretches of the Patna metro tunnelling.
