Pune Metro successfully completes the erection of 715 piers till date and begins final phase of pier erection for Line-3

The Puneri Metro project, designed to connect the thriving IT hub of Hinjewadi with the bustling central business district of Shivajinagar, is making extraordinary strides.

  • The pier erection work on this route has reached its concluding phase, marking a significant milestone. Among the planned 923 pillars for this 23.3 km stretch, approximately 80% of them, totalling 715 piers, have now been successfully erected.
  • The 715th pier, a testament to engineering excellence, was inaugurated today near Agriculture College Square on Ganeshkhind Road. Notably, since the casting of the inaugural pier on Ganeshkhind Road in April 2022, the Pune Metro Line 3 development team has achieved the remarkable feat of erecting over 700 piers in a mere 17 months.

  • In conjunction with the pier construction, the pile cap work for Pune Metro Line 3 has also entered its final phase, with 810 out of 923 pile caps now completed. Alok Kapoor, the Chief Executive Officer of Pune Metro Line 3, emphasised that these piers boast a unique circular design with a diameter of 2000 mm, meticulously crafted to meet the exacting standards of the metro rail system while adhering unwaveringly to construction safety guidelines outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) manual.
  • Upon completion, the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro will offer a seamless, cost-effective, and convenient public transportation solution, profoundly enhancing the daily lives of the city’s commuters. About Pune Metro Line 3:

  • The Pune Metro Line III is a ~23 Km elevated Metro rail project connecting the IT hub of Hinjewadi to the Central business district of Shivajinagar.
  • It is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project awarded by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to a consortium consisting of Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.
  • The Project would be developed & operated on Design, build, finance, operate & transfer (DBFOT) basis by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) for a Concession Period of 35 years including the construction period.
