Railways completes 268 km Parli Vaijnath-Vikarabad Electrification Project

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi congratulated people of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana for Parli Vaijnath-Vikarabad Electrification Project, as the entire route of 268 km is now electrified.

More Details:

  • Spurring towards Mission 100% Electrification, Parli Vaijnath-Vikarabad Electrification Project has been completed.
  • With the electrification of the final stretch of Latur Road-Parli Vaijnath, the entire route of 268 km is now electrified. The project benefits Telangana, Karnataka & Maharashtra.
  • Continuing the record electrification achieved during the first nine months of the current financial year, Railways has achieved o­ne more milestone by completing Vikarabad – Parli Vaijnath electrification project.
  • The final stretch of the project between Latur Road – Parli Vaijnath for a distance of 63.75 Route Kms has been commissioned, marking the completion of the entire project. With this, the entire section of 268 Rkms covering around 90 Kms of Telangana, 62 Kms of Karnataka and 116 Kms of Maharashtra states now stands electrified.

  • To achieve “Mission Electrification”, the electrification of the railway lines is being done o­n a war footing basis to complete 100% electrification of the network.
  • Electrification of railway lines will pave the way for environment friendly means of transportation by replacing Diesel traction with electric traction.
  • It also helps in seamless movement of freight and passenger traffic, besides reducing the enroute detentions. The fuel expenditure will be drastically reduced by reducing Diesel consumption.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi said “More power to this Mission and congratulations to the people from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana who will benefit from this particular stretch.”

About Project:

  • Vikarabad – Parli Vaijnath electrification project was sanctioned in the year 2018-19 at an estimated cost of Rs 244 Crores for a distance of 268 Rkms.
  • The stretch between Vikarabad – Kohir Deccan (for a distance of 45 Kms) was commissioned in March, 2021 and the stretch between Kohir Deccan – Khanapur (for a distance of 60.5 Kms) was completed in January, 2022.
  • Later, 98.75 Rkms stretch between Khanapur – Latur Road was electrified in October, 2022. Now, the last stretch of the project i.e., between Latur Road – Parli Vaijnath for 63.75 Rkms Electrification has been completed.
  • The trains in the entire section can now be operated with electric traction o­n an end to end basis. This is o­ne of the important sections handling trains between Southern part of India and towards Aurangabad, Shirdi and Pune among others.
