Shri S.V.R. Srinivas, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA reviews progress of Mumbai Metro Line-2A & Line 9 project

Shri S.V.R. Srinivas IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, visited various project sites on 22.12.2021 of Metro Line 2A & Metro Line 9 to inspect the overall progress with the team and also review the site of the proposed Metro Carshed at Raimurdhe on Metro Line 2A, the Metropolitan Commissioner reviewed the ongoing station works in Dahisar & examined the beautification works around the underpass area.

  • Shri S.V.R. Srinivas also inspected the locations of proposed entry-exit points on Metro Line 9 and discussed the construction preparedness of the same.
  • The Metropolitan Commissioner held an on-site meeting with the team to discuss the issues related to High-Tension Power Cables and instructed them to accelerate the shifting of such cables. 
  • He also directed the team to expedite the road widening works to ensure that the projects are executed at the earliest.
  • On 17.12.2021, Shri S.V.R. Srinivas IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner inspected the Mumbai Metro Line from Thane to Bhiwandi Location to check the ongoing progress of Metro construction. 
  • He particularly visited off shore metro bridge site on sea creek & discussed with the on-site engineers about any current issues arising due to the construction requiring immediate attention.
  • He also visited the metro locations on the Bhiwandi route to assess the on ground situation in the area.
  • The Metropolitan Commissioner emphasized on the #CatchUpPlan to ensure the teams meet the deadlines and highlight any concerns beforehand.
  • The Metro Line 5 from Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan will be a 25 KM long elevated corridor with 15 stations and it will reduce the current travel time by 50%.

About Mumbai Metro Line 2A (Dahisar – D.N. Nagar):

  • Metro Line 2A from Dahisar to D N Nagar is 18.589 km. long elevated corridor with 17 stations.
  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Lines 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale) & 7 (Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E)) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
  • It shall facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Dahisar and D N Nagar.
  • It shall provide connectivity between the Western, Central Mumbai and the Northern suburban Mumbai.
  • It shall provide rail based access to the commercial and geographical landmarks in Mumbai.
  • It shall reduce the current travel time by anything between 50% and 75% depending on road conditions.

Mumbai Metro Line 9 (i.e. Line 7 Extension):

  • Metro Line 9 is extension of Line 7 form Andheri to CSIA and Dahisar to Mira Bhayander and is 13.581 km long (11.386 km elevated and 2.195 km underground) with 10 stations.
  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) and Metro Line 7(Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E)).
  • It shall provide rail based access to the commercial, Govt. bodies and geographical landmarks in Mumbai.
  • Maintenance Depot has been proposed at Mira-Bhayander (main depot for entire line-7). Total land area proposed for maintenance facilities is 20.0 Ha.
  • It shall reduce the current travel time by anything between 50% and 75% depending on road conditions.

Recent Update:

Shri S.V.R. Srinivas IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, visited the Aarey Metro Station among others along the Metro Line 7 to check the progress of construction of stations as per the Catch Up Plan and the targeted Commissioning.

  • The Metropolitan Commissioner also took an update on the various system works installation, testing and Commissioning including metro trains.
  • He examined the systems while on a train run from Aarey to Ovaripada & inspect the on train S & T mechanisms relating to the platform doors, braking & acceleration.
  • During his visit, he also took an update on the progress of the civil works on enroute stations and had a detailed inspection of the current progress of the Ovaripada metro station. 
  • He also instructed the team to ensure the construction of roads near metro sites are also completed on priority to avoid inconvenience to the daily commuters when the route is commissioned.
  • During the on site review meeting he emphasised on the importance of the Catch Up Plan and asked the team to ensure all construction work of the Phase 1 of the lines to be completed before deadlines to ensure timely commissioning.
