Southern Railway’s GM, Shri B.G. Mallya inspects Podanur signal and telecommunication workshop

Shri B.G. Mallya, General Manager, Southern Railway along with Shri S. Selvadurai, Principal Chief Signal and Telecommunications Engineer, Southern Railway, and Shri P.V.Murali Krishna, Chief Workshop Manager, S&T Workshop, Podanur, and other officers inspected the Signal & Telecommunication Training Centre/Podanur and Signal & Telecommunication Workshop/Podanur on 18th August, 2022.

More details:

  • During the inspection of the Training Centre at Podanur the General Manager commissioned the IP based CCTV system at the Training Centre, which has been installed for the safety and security of the women trainees attending training o­n Signal and Telecom maintenance and interacted with the trainees.
  • Various products manufactured by the workshop such as LED Signal, Digital Voice Announcement System (DVAS), SMS Alert System, CR Test Kit (Flasher), Timers (60/120 sec.), LED Signal Testing Panel for checking the Lux level were inspected.
  • Congratulating the Workshop for getting a record five ISO Certifications, the General Manager stressed upon the importance of Non Conventional Energy while commissioning a 60 KW o­n Grid Solar Power Plant. This is in addition to the 30 KW capacity Solar Power Plant already available, making the workshop’s Solar Power capacity to 90 KW.

  • On Indian Railways, there are 9 Signal & Telecommunication Workshops of which Signal & Telecommunication Workshop, Podanur is o­ne of the major Workshops and the products manufactured by S&T Workshop, Podanur are competitive with the market prices.
  • Started in 1958 to overhaul mechanical signalling items, The Workshop has grown into o­ne of the leading manufacturing units for modern signalling equipments is currently manufacturing 50 different types of advanced Signaling & Telecommunication equipment like Tokenless Block Instrument, Electronic Axle Counter, Double Line Block Instruments, Q Series Relays, Point Machines, LED Signals etc Specialized relays, SMS alert systems, Electric lifting barrier gates, Point machine for high speed lines, etc with an annual turnover of around 120 crores.

  • The pride of the workshop lies in its capacity to produce sophisticated signaling products to high levels of quality. This workshop has got ISO 9001, 14001, 18001, 22000, 50001 with ISO Integrated Management System IMS certification.
  • The Signal and Telecommunication training center, Podanur  is an ISO certified training centre to impart training to Signal and Telecom Technicians and Engineers of Southern Railway and South Western Railway.
