The long awaited SER’s Digha (Chandaneswar) – Jaleswar new line project to start soon

The South Eastern Railway (SER) is set to initiate the construction of the eagerly anticipated Digha (Chandaneswar) – Jaleswar new line project, spanning 42 kilometres within the Kharagpur Division. Aimed at fast-track completion, this project aims to bolster connectivity between the coastal region of Digha and Jaleswar on the main line of the Howrah – Chennai route.

More Details:

This was a long pending demand of local residents of Baleshwar district. After completion, this project will be immensely beneficial for the students, daily commuters, businessmen, patients etc. of Chandaneswar area as well as Bhograi and Jaleswar Hinterland. The connectivity will also boost tourism for Chandaneswar Temple, Bhusandeswar Temple, Talsari-Udaypur Beach, Bichitrapur  Mangrove Sanctuary etc.

Significance of the Project:

  • The Jaleswar-Chandaneswar line will connect famous Shaivapiths of Baleshwar district with Jaleswar station
  • This rail connectivity will provide an alternate route between Howrah to Bhadrak Via Panskura, Tamluk, Digha and Jaleswar avoiding the busy section of Howrah-Chennai HDN route
  • The line will provide direct and shortest connectivity for tourists to Chandaneswar, a very popular tourist destination and also a few other important nearby places
  • Promote regional socio-economic upliftment: Connectivity & transport needs of Fisheries and aquaculture & local agricultural produce
  • The project will also enhance port connectivity

In addition to this Final Location Survey has also been sanctioned by the Railway Board for construction of new line between Angul – Nayagarh Town via Narsinghpur, Kantilo and Khandapada and a Chord line between Khurda Town – Kaipadar Road (120 km).

This series of projects marks a significant step forward in enhancing the railway infrastructure and connectivity in the region, promising a range of socio-economic benefits for the local communities and industries.
