The Indonesian government has been working on various initiatives to improve the country’s railway infrastructure and transportation system. The National Railway Master Plan 2030 is an ambitious project aimed at expanding and upgrading Indonesia’s railway network to enhance connectivity, support economic growth, and provide efficient transportation options.

National Railway Master Plan 2024 Programs:

Indonesia has set a target of constructing a 10,524 km rail line by 2030 for the National Railway Network program, including 3,755 km of urban railways network
Procurement of Passenger Rolling Stock (2,839 locomotives and 34,178 passenger coaches) and
Freight Trains Rolling Stock (2,475 locomotives and 48,364 freight wagons).
Beside Jakarta, the government is preparing plans for the construction of the LRT & MRT in 5 other cities (Bali, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan and Makassar).
After 1st High Speed Rail from Jakarta – Bandung completed, Indonesia government continues the construction of The 2nd High Speed Rail from Jakarta to Surabaya with a track length of more than 720 km or 5x longer than the High Speed Rail Jakarta –  Bandung.

The budget for the National Railway Master Plan 2030 is allocated IDR 853 trillion (avg USD 60 Billion). Such funds are for the construction of stations, subway trains, electric trains, railroads, and the procurement of electric trains. Environmentally Friendly Technologies will be a priority in future rail projects.

Indonesia Railway Conference 2024 (IRC)

Indonesia Railway Conference 2024 (IRC 2024) is part of RailwayTech Indonesia 2024, in which provides an extensive platform and becomes the most dynamic meeting place for experts and professionals in rail sectors. Speakers will share the most impact breakthroughs, and most sophisticated and modern ideas on many aspects which are related to rail transport. The conference shall discuss major challenges happening in the current railway modes (MRT, Airport Railway Station, High Speed, Medium Speed, LRT, Commuter, Urban, and Intercity) and will open up new avenues for learning modern technologies, prospects, and growth opportunities that lie ahead of the Indonesian Railway sector.

The development of rail transportation modes are major concern by Indonesian government. The construction of number of railways are also included in the National Strategic Project (PSN).  The rail development plans are in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua, Java, and Bali.
