Western Railway accelerate the construction work of 6th line on Khar and Goregaon section for early completion

Western Railway has undertaken the work of a fast-tracking 6th line project over the Mumbai suburban section. The work between Khar and Goregaon comprising 8.8 km has commenced from 7th October, 2023 and is progressing at a rapid pace.

The project o­n its completion will greatly benefit the passengers, especially the commuters of Mumbai suburban section. It will provide a huge respite to Mumbaikars by augmenting additional train services in future.

Western Railway, in order to undertake the work of construction of the 6th line between Khar & Goregaon, a block of 29 days is being undertaken over the Mumbai suburban section of Western Railway. In spite of the huge quantum of work involved, the block work has been meticulously planned so as to ensure minimum disruption to rail traffic as well as least inconvenience to passengers.

It is pertinent to mention here that the block has been planned so that there is no cancellation of trains in the initial 10 -13 days. It is o­nly from 20th October, 2023, that there will be cancellation of suburban trains.

Around 2700 services will be cancelled & about 400 services will be partially cancelled/short-terminated. Long-distance trains will also be affected, with approx. 60 cancellations & around 200 partial cancellations /short terminations expected.

As a part of this work, Andheri PF No. 9 will be suspended from 19/20th October till completion of the Non-Interlocking work. On the last day of the work, a 24 hour Mega Block will be undertaken from 21.00 hrs of Saturday to 21.00 hrs of Sunday, i.e. o­n 4th/5thNovember, 2023, at Bandra Terminus for the cut-and-connect of rail tracks.

Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, informed that this project will enhance the line capacity of Mumbai suburban section and will help to ease the congestion, improve punctuality and help to add more train services.
