Western Railway earns over Rs 100 crore in overall Parcel Revenue

During the crisis that arose due to Covid-19, Western Railway is taking all possible efforts to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities. Western Railway has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in overall Parcel Revenue during the current financial year. This could be made possible due to the able guidance and dynamic leadership of Shri Alok Kansal- General Manager of Western Railway. 

  • The team of officers and staff were encouraged to perform their best to achieve this feat. 
  • WR is constantly exploring new avenues for quick and seamless transportation of essentials to contribute in a big way to the socio economic development of the country. 
  • The Kisan special trains which are being run by WR are a great boon to the farmers, as it has provided new markets to the farmers. 
  • The produce, especially perishables can reach the destinations faster and it is more economical. 
  • The traffic of onions has also crossed international borders, which helps in boosting international ties as well as the economy. 
  • WR is always there at the forefront to serve the nation and its people and thereby accelerating the progress of our country.
  • A new traffic of rock phosphate was generated and the first rake left from Dahej in Gujarat to Jhansi o­n 9th Dec, 2020. 
  • This consignment was undertaken for M/s Khaitan Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd,fetching revenue of Rs.52.40/- lakhs.
  • According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur- Western Rly’s Chief Public Relations Officer, WR recently crossed the Rs 100 crore mark fetching revenue through overall parcel booking, to the tune of Rs 103.38 Crore from 1st April, 2020 to 9th December, 2020. 
  • This revenue was earned through loading of 2.90 lakh tonnes of commodities. 
  • WR thus contributes almost 22 -24 % share in Loading and Revenue of Indian Railways.
  • This commendable performance was achieved despite the toughest challenges during complete lockdown imposed from 22nd March, 2020.
  • Shri Thakur further stated that Western Railway has done laudable work by loading 24,027 rakes of goods trainstill 9th Dec, 2020. 
  • The loading included various essential commodities amounting to 52.81 Million Tonnes to different states of the country, including the North East region. 
  • In addition to this Millennium Parcel Van and Milk Tank Wagons containing various essential commodities such as medicine, medical kits, frozen food, milk powder and liquid milk were loaded to the Northern & North East region. 
  • Total 48203 Freight trains were interchanged with other Railways including 24,123 trains handed over and 24,080 trains taken over at different interchange points of Western Railway. 
  • The revenue generated through these goods trains is more than Rs 6700 crore. 
  • In addition to above goods traffic, since 23rd March to 9th Dec, 2020, commodities weighing more than 1.97 lakh tonnes have been transported by Western Rly through its 740 parcel special trains, which mainly included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc. 
  • The revenue generated through this transportation, has been approx. Rs 67.27 crore. During this period, 132 milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of more than 1 lakh tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons. 
  • Similarly, 526 Covid-19 special parcel trains with a load of about 61 thousand tonnes were also run to transport various essential commodities. 
  • In addition to this, 77 indented rakes carrying approx. 35 thousand tonnes were also run with almost 100% utilization. 
  • WR has scheduled to run various timetabled Parcel special trains to different parts of the country. 
  • O­n 10th Dec, 2020, o­ne parcel special train left from Porbandar to Shalimar. 
  • O­ne indent rake also left from Karambeli to Azara station.
