Bangalore Metro awards tender to M. Venkata Rao Infra Projects for Phase-2 metro extension

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has taken a significant stride towards the expansion of its metro network with the issuance of a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to M/s M. Venkata Rao Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. for the Phase-2 Extension project. The awarded contract entails the extension of the metro line in Reach-1B and the addition of a third line at Whitefield Depot.

In October, 2023 the BMRCL invited a tender for Tender Number: BMRCL/Phase-2/Reach-1B Extn./Via /2023/99

Introduction:

  • The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited is a Joint venture enterprise of Government of India and Government of Karnataka, entrusted with the responsibility of implementation of Bangalore Metro Rail project.
  • The Phase-1 of the project which is already under operation consists of 42.3 km with 40 stations. The East-West Corridor is for a length of 18.2 km and North-South Corridor is for a length of 24.1 Km. Both the corridors include an underground section of total length 8.80 Km and has seven stations including the interchange station at Majestic.
  • The Phase-2 of Bangalore Metro Rail Project consists of Four Extensions to the existing lines and Two New Lines with a total length of 72.095 km with 61 stations (49 Elevated and 12 Underground) of which 27.36 Km is under operation and balance is under construction.
  • The Phase-2A of Bangalore Metro Rail Project i.e. ORR line with a total length of 19.75 km with 13 Elevated stations and Phase-2B i.e. Airport line with a total length of 38.44 km with 17 Elevated stations is under construction.

  • Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Karnataka, is a Special Purpose Vehicle entrusted with the responsibility of implementation and operation of Bangalore Metro Rail Project.
  • Bangalore Metro, christened as “Namma Metro”, not only adds to the beauty of Bangalore city skyline, but more importantly provides a safe, quick, reliable and comfortable public transport system. Besides this, Namma Metro is a major environment friendly addition to the Bangalore City as it significantly contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions.
  • Metro services have been in operation on 56 KM on East-West corridor – 25.6 km long, starting from Baiyappanahalli in the East and terminating at Kengeri Terminal in the West and on 30.4 km North-South corridor commencing at Nagasandra in the North and terminating at Silk Institute in the South. This is the First Metro rail project in India commissioned with 750V DC Third Rail Traction on Standard Gauge.
