Chennai Metro signs contract with M/s KEC-VNC JV for construction of track of standard gauge between CMBT and Madhavaram Milk Colony for Phase-2

Chennai Metro signed a contract for construction of track works of Standard Gauge including all Associated Works between CMBT and Madhavaram Milk Colony in Corridor 5 of CMRL Phase – 2 project at a cost of Rs. 206.64 Crores.

More Details:

  • The second phase of the Chennai Metro Rail is going on in full swing. The Contract for construction of track works of Standard Gauge including all Associated Works between CMBT and Madhavaram Milk Colony for 10.1 km in Corridor 5 of CMRL Phase – 2 projects was awarded to M/s. KEC – VNC JV at a cost of Rs. 206.64 Crores with JICA funding.
  • The works involve Supply of Head Hardened Rails, Turnouts, Fastenings and Installation of Ballastless Tracks in including 16 Metro Station (include CMBT, Annanagar KV Metro, Thirumangalam Junction Metro, Anna Nagar West Metro, Retteri Junction Metro, Shastri Nagar Metro, Madhavaram Bus Terminal Metro, Velmurugan Nagar Metro, Manchambakkam Metro and Assisi Nagar Metro are Elevated Metro Stations and Villivakkam MTH Road Metro, Villivakkam Bus Terminal Metro, Villivakkam Metro, Srinivasa Nagar Metro, Kolathur Junction Metro and Madhavaram Depot Metro are Underground Metro Stations) of the CMRL Phase-2 Project.
  • Chennai Metro Rail Limited Director Mr. T. Archunan (Projects), Mr. S. Ashok Kumar, CGM (T&EC), Mr. Livingstone, CGM (PP&D), Tmt. Rekha Prakash, CGM (PD), Mr. Gurunath Reddy, AGM (CP) were present along with Mr. Sivaguru, Project Manager and Mr. Praveen Goel, Director from M/s. KEC – VNC JV and other officials of CMRL were present during the signing of the Contract.

Chennai Metro Phase-2:

  • Phase II expansion has been planned for a length of 118.9 Km network with 128 nos. Of Stations. It consists of three Corridors i.e. Corridor -3 – From Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km), Corridor -4 – From Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1 Km), Corridor-5- From Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 Km).
  • The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 63246/- Cr (Rupees Sixty three thousand two hundred and forty six only) (including IDC). The project is proposed to be completed by the end of 2026.
