Chennai Metro submits DFR for Mass Rapid Transport System from Poonamalle to Parandur via Thirumazhisai and Sriperumbudur

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has submitted the Detailed Feasibility Report for recommending Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) from Poonamalle to Parandur via Thirumazhisai & Sriperumbudur.

In a move to extend the metro line for providing more connectivity for the people of Chennai, CMRL has prepared and submitted the Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) for recommendation of Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) from Poonamalle to Parandur via Thirumazhisai & Sriperumbudur.

Mr. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Government, Managing Director, CMRL has submitted the DPR to Mr. Ramesh Chand Meena, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary, Special Initiatives, Government of Tamil Nadu at Secretariat, Chennai on 4th January, 2024.

  • Proposed Salient features of Detailed Feasibility Reports (DFR) for recommending MRTS from Poonamalle to Parandur via Thirumazhisai & Sriperumbudur are as follows:
    • Total length Corridor: 43.63 km
    • Tentative No. of Elevated Stations: 19Nos
    • Approximate estimated Completion cost: Rs 10,712 Crores

CMRL recommended the above considering the recent developments such as the proposed New Airport at Parandur, proposed Bus Terminus at Thirumazhisai and future growth potential along the Corridor. Following extensive alignment study at the DPR stage, the total number of stations and details of land requirements will be Finalised.

Mr. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), Mr. T. Livingstone Eliazer, Chief General Manager (PP & D), and other Senior Officials of CMRL were present during the occasion.
