Eastern Railway registers freight earnings of Rs. 593.40 crore in the month of June, 2023

Eastern Railway, though popularly known as passenger carrying railway, under the leadership of Shri Amar Prakash Dwivedi, General Manager of Eastern Railway, is striving hard towards excellence in freight loading.

  • Shri Prabhas Dansana, Principal Chief Operations Manager of Eastern Railway has sensitised all the officials concerned with freight loading to explore all possibilities of increasing freight volume of Eastern Railway to grab a major share in freight transport business in this region.
  • Eastern Railway has achieved a remarkable increase in freight loading in the month of June this year compared to that of previous fiscal.
  • The total loading of Eastern Railway in the month of June, 2023 recorded as 6.75 million tonnes compared to 6.62 million tonnes in June 2022 wherein, the coal loading has shown a sharp increase by 11.14% as 4.19 million tonnes coal loaded in Eastern Railway in June, 2023 against 3.77 million tonnes of coal loading in June, 2022.
  • The total originating freight earnings of Eastern Railway in the month of June recorded as ₹ 593.40 crores, showing an increase of 16.77% over ₹ 508.16 crores earned in June, 2022.
  • In respect of cumulative freight performance, the total loading of Eastern Railway in the first quarter of the current financial year i.e. from April to June, 2023 recorded as 20.28 million tonnes where coal alone occupied the major share of 12.83 million tonnes.
  • The freight earnings of Eastern Railway from April to June, 2023 also showed a remarkable increase of 17.13% by achieving an originating freight earning of ₹ 1820.07 crores for the period from April to June, 2023 compared to ₹ 1553.92 crores earned during corresponding period of the previous financial year.
