EIB Delegation visits metro projects of UPMRC

EIB Team recently reviewed the progress of under construction projects of Agra and Kanpur Metro Rail Projects.

  • The teams during the initial three days from 9th April to 11th April 2022 reviewed the progress of Agra Metro Project.
  • During their visit to Agra, they reviewed the progress of Agra depot and construction work going on the 6KMs priority corridor starting from Taj East to Jama Masjid. EIB team also took a review of underground section of the first corridor and found the progress going fine.

  • In the second phase of the visit, the EIB delegation reached Kanpur to review the progress of Kanpur Metro Project. On 12th April 2022, they took a ride in Kanpur Metro and reviewed the progress of revenue operations on the 9 KMs corridor. They took cognizance of the operations of metro depot situated at Gurudev Chaurah and visited the operation control centre at Kanpur Metro Depot. They also visited the underground construction sites of Kanpur Metro’s first corridor. 

They said that “Despite the two Covid waves, UPMRC has been able to commence the revenue operations of priority corridor of Kanpur metro within a record time of 2 years 1 month. It holds the distinction of being the fastest constructed metro project in India. The team expressed satisfaction over the pace of execution of the under construction metro projects in Kanpur and Agra.”

  • On the concluding day of their visit , today in the morning , UPMRC MD, Kumar Keshav accompanied by the team of directors and EIB team took a metro train ride from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport Metro Station to Hazrat Ganj Metro Station.  
  • In the afternoon, a 7 member delegation led by Ms. Katrin Bock, Investment Officer(EIB), the EIB team met Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh. Shri Kumar Keshav, MD, UPMRC and other directors were also part of this delegation. The EIB expressed its interest in funding East-West Corridor of Lucknow Metro Project and Gorakhpur Metro Lite Project. On this occasion Kumar Keshav said that EIBs funding is very significant for the UPMRC projects. 
  • The EIB team after the visit to Chief Secretary’s office held an official meeting with Kumar Keshav, 

MD, UPMRC, Directors and other senior officials.  Shri Kumar Keshav, MD UPMRC during the meeting said that “UPMRC will continue to deliver the  projects within a stipulated time line. We will continue to provide best services to the people. We  appreciate the role played by EIB in providing financial support to the UPMRC. He thanked EIB for  showing trust and positive approach towards UPMRC. The EIB assured full cooperation to UPMRC for the upcoming projects”.
